Second Round Here They Come!
|
Ladies and gentlemen, that's the ballgame. The Montreal Canadiens had never lost a playoff series when leading 3-1...tonight, that trend remains in tact as the Habs defeated the hard-working Bruins 5-0 in front of a blisteringly loud crowd at the Bell Centre. Andrei Kostitsyn added a late power play goal to his earlier marker, Sergei Kostitsyn scored with 7 seconds left, Mike Komisarek and Mark Streit also scored, Carey Price provided the occassional goaltending heroics and the support staff did an incredible job of shutting down the opposition. This town went through a rollercoaster of emotions...confidence, discomfort, uneasiness, fear, panic, doubt... Now, it's pure jubilation...enjoy the win Canadiens fans...the Bruins are going home. I hate to rain on the parade but what I saw after the game in downtown Montreal was downright embarassing, disgusting, and frightening.
First of all, people were crowding the streets, blocking traffic, yelling obsenities, etc... I don't mind a little post-game celebration but there were people with their clothes off for God's sake. It's the first round of the playoffs. We haven't won anything yet.
Secondly, things DID get ugly. Bottles being thrown, rocks being tossed, Bruins fans harassed and cop cars set on fire. Absolutely disgusting to see.
It took 7 games for the number one seed to beat the number eight seed and yet we have the city celebrating like they won the Stanley Cup.
ACT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE.
A little class and humility goes a long way and I for one am embarassed with the behaviour of a small minority of "fans".
For the most part, the 21,000+ at the Bell Centre were great. But it's a case of one bad apple spoiling the whole bunch.
