Habs Take Game 1
|
It was a bizarre, exciting night at the Bell Centre... |
They say this is a game of inches and last night was proof of that...
The Canadiens defeated the Flyers 4-3 in overtime. Tom Kostopoulos jumped on a rebound just 48 seconds into the first overtime, giving the Canadiens a 1-nothing series lead.
The game WENT to overtime because Alex Kovalev scored the tying goal with only 29 seconds left, on the power play, with Carey Price on the bench for an extra attacker.
Kovalev also scored earlier in the game...a play that went to a lengthy review.
He knocked the puck past Martin Biron with a borderline high stick -- his blade actually hit the cross bar on the downward follow through.
The Flyers thought it was a high stick, but after watching it from 50 angles, it looked good to me. It was inconclusive at best and it was called a goal by the official as it happened...
Andrei Kostitsyn scored the other goal, a great shot. He had missed on a penalty shot earlier in the game.
Joffrey Lupul, Jim Dowd and RJ Umberger scored for the Flyers. Umberger's goal was supposed to be a pass, but Patrice Brisebois tipped the puck into his own net.
