Give Price Some Credit

I keep hearing people say that if Guy Carbonneau goes with Jaroslav Halak instead of Carey Price tonight, it'll potentially shatter Price's confidence.

Give me a break.

I understand that the guy is 20 and has limited NHL experience, but I think he's a little more mentally sound than some people are giving him credit for. As an goaltender you understand that sometimes it's just not your night and you have to learn to give up your spot from time to time.

This is one of those times.

15 goals allowed in the 7-game first round series against Boston versus 10 goals already allowed in the first three games against Philly.

A 2.09 GAA and a .925 save percentage against the Bruins compared to a 3.79 GAA and an .853 save percentage against the Flyers.

Numbers don't lie, body language says a lot and maybe the kid needs a break. Here's where I think Guy Carbonneau made a mistake...

If he ultimately wanted to go back to Price in game 4 and was intent on instilling more confidence in his frazzled netminder, he should have said that Price was the guy RIGHT AFTER the game 3 loss, instead of waiting until gametime.

We'll see what happens tonight...

I agree that Carey Price definitely needed a break. Maybe not a full game, but a well deserved break. Sorry to say that I'm a Montreal-born Flyers fan! I don't think the Flyers have been playing fantastic hockey but, neither have the Habs. Goaltending has been an issue for either team. The reason I believe the Flyers have been winning is the grinding, board suffocating style they play. In this series it appears that size does matter, and with a little skill mixed in....the Habs just can't match up!

Hey Craig,
Thanks for the comment, there's certainly nothing wrong with being a Flyers fan right now. They're playing some amazing hockey and the bounces are going their way.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who felt Carey needed a break -- he's young and if you listen to what he said after practice yesterday (a few days after I wrote this blog), he even admitted that he was fatigued.
We expect too much out of our athletes sometimes and it's nice to see someone like you has some common sense.
And yes, the Flyers have suffocated the Canadiens and that's why the Flyers will win this series. They've done their homework and they're reaping the rewards of their hard work.
Thanks for the comment, keep 'em coming.
